Sabunike is a small tourist settlement situated 20 km from Zadar and only 2,5 km from Nin to the west. Geographically it belongs to the township of Privlaka, which is well-known for its long sandy beaches, warm sea and beautiful view of the mountains and islands of the Nin bay. You can reach Sabunike from the south by road Nin-Privlaka-island Vir or from the north by strolling along the famous sandy “Queen’s Beach” (Croatian: “Kraljičina plaža”) situated exactly between Nin und Sabunike. Sabunike is the well-known settlement with a few hundreds of private family houses and boarding-houses. As the sea is shallow and clear, you can enjoy pleasant bathing already in May or June. Children can carelessly swim and play on the warm sand. You can spend evening hours in restaurants, pizzerias, confectioneries, by strolling along the beaches or pine grove or just by enjoying the quiet on the terrace under the star sky. By the nearby beach there is a MEDICINAL MUD, whose curative traits, along with the sun and warm sea water, enable thermotherapy in cases of rheumatism and severe illnesses and show excellent results in curing various forms of rheumatism, arthritis, female infertility etc. The therapy is carried out in the outdoors under medical supervision. From the first row of houses you need to cross only 150 m to reach the sea, from the last row of houses 900 m. In the centre of the settlement you will pass by the green tree line made of beautiful cypresses. In this settlement there are supermarkets, a market, bakery, confectionery, souvenir shop, newspaper stand, telephone booth, tourist office and entertainment centre for children (with merry-go-round, video games, swings, playground slides and similar). The closest airport is Zadar-Zemunik (25 km), the closest ferry port is in Zadar, as well as railway station (23 km). Once a day there is a school bus that stops in Sabunike. For other bus connections it is necessary to reach Privlaka or Nin. Beaches The place itself was named after its SAND (Dalmatian word for sand is “SABUN”). Its sandy beaches cover an area of about 15 km, from the oldest Croatian town Nin over Sabunike to the island of Vir. It is the region of warm, shallow and long sandy lagoons far away from the roads and city bustle. In Sabunike you can bathe on two beaches: on the sandy “Queen’s Beach” (Croatian: Kraljičina plaža) that is situated from Sabunike to the left toward Nin. You get to the beach after you descend a sandy hill which offers a wonderful view over the beach, the town of Nin and the mountain of Velebit. Many guests as well as domestic bathers prefer this beach, but also the visitors who would like to try the medicinal mud. From Sabunike to the right (300-500 m walk) you will find quiet sandy coves where you can enjoy an undisturbed peace. We recommend Sabunike to the guests who want to spend their vacation on a quiet and pleasant place, on sandy beaches providing easy access to the sea, ideal for children. If you wish an evening walk or more interesting entertainment, you need to go to Nin, Zaton or Privlaka nearby. Shallow waters and the indentation of the coastline ensure that the water temperature is some 2-3 oC higher than on the open sea and this causes higher salinity and aerosol. The sea temperature during summer is 25-27 °C. Children will enjoy digging and building castles in the sand, finding shells, sea snails, sea stars, sea souvenirs etc.
